Hello my little lady,
Seems like now is the time for travels to the homeland. I loved that picture of your dad with the fireworks, and Borden is looking very well. Handsome as ever. Last weekend the boy and I also made the ceremonial pilgrimage–to Chicago and Northwestern, and then to Wisconsin! A whirlwind trip. We got to stay with Cat, and Katie flew out as well! It was Alex’s first trip to Chicago, so we did some touristy things to inaugurate him:
Portillo’s for hot dogs.
Lou Malnati’s deep dish with giardiniera (scarfed down too fast for pictures). Views of Lake Michigan from a rooftop.
Really poorly executed selfies at the Bean. Seriously, you couldn’t see us in any of the pictures.
The second, slightly less-touristy layer of the experience included:
Eating too much at Edzo’s. Walking around the Lakefill at Northwestern (there are so many WEIRD new buildings on campus now).
Vintage shopping in Pilsen, with a stop for Tequila ice cream (tequila ice cream tastes like tequila).
A Lagunitas Brewery tour.
And a delightful night at the Neo-Futurists show, also not pictured.
We did all of this in 48 hours, allocating very few of these hours to sleep. We then scooped up my sister and sleepily drove up to Wisconsin to see the fam and the puppy.
It took a week to slowly catch up on sleep, but it was worth it. If only there were jobs I was interested in Chicago. Would be a cool place to live. I will keep a lookout but I don’t imagine this is the time sadly. We will just have to make more trips I suppose!
